During a mini-lesson this past week, we learned about how we should constantly be thinking while we are reading. So in order to help students understand this concept better, I took a regular salad bowl and compared the salad ingredients to text and our thinking. In a salad you have more green lettuce than any other ingredient. Just like in our reading we have more thinking than text. As we read a sentence, a paragraph, or a page, we should constantly be making those text to self, text to text, and text to world connections. :)
