Polar Express Fun!

What a relaxing and fun day we had drinking hot chocolate, and watching the Polar Express movie. The kids never get tired of hearing the story, and I have to admit neither do I!! :) We also shared our favorite books of all time with one another. It was interesting to see how many of them shared the same favorites. Some of the popular ones were "Verde, Stories of Santa Up on the Housetop, Polar Express, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Diary of A Wimpy Kid, etc" This was my favorite part of the day! I love hearing kids be excited about reading and sharing their love of books with one another.

Edible Rocks Labs

What a sweet treat...VERY SWEET TREAT!! :)

Time to bake our layers of sediment!

Sedimentary Rock

Metamorphic Rock

Thank you for all the donations to help us make our edible rocks labs such a treat! The students learned about how rocks are actually formed and had fun while learning it. We melted chocolate chips and put them in the freezer. We checked back again at the end of the day and our melted chocolate had cooled and hardened. This helped us understand how Igneous Rocks are form.

Mystery Reader # 5

We welcomed Mrs. Magee to our classroom this week as a mystery reader. She speaks French and even lived in Paris one semester in college! The kids thought that was the coolest thing ever. They kept asking her to say their name in French, and wanting to know if their last name was French. She read to us The Sweetest Fig by Chris Van Halzberg. It's a very cute book and the kids loved how it ended with a twist! This author is also know for his books like Polar Express and Jumanji...two of my personal favorites! ;)

Thankful Writings & Recipe Holder Craft

Happy Thanksgiving! :)

I hope that you all enjoyed receiving and reading your child's thankful writing pieces. I am so very proud of how hard they worked and how much thought they put into explaining why they are so thankful for their loved ones. :)

I also hope you will enjoy using your recipe card holder. The kids wrote down an easy snack mix that they could make to add to your Thanksgiving spread. :) I wanted them to create something that you could keep and bring out each year on this holiday.

Charlie Brown Thanksgiving Movie

As we watched this movie we reflected on why we should be thankful for what we have. We discussed how some people don't have anything to eat this Thanksgiving. Even if all we had was popcorn, pretzels, jellybeans and toast..it would be the perfect Thanksgiving because we would be with the ones we love and that's all that matters. :)

Mystery Reader # 4

We were pleased to welcome Logan's mom, Mrs. Smith to our classroom on Tuesday as our mystery reader. She read to us two great Rudolph books and they really helped us get even more excited about this upcoming holiday season.:)

Everyday Math Game Day with Parents

We enjoyed having parents come and visit with us to see how we play our math games. I was very impressed with how well the students behaved and remembered how to play all the games.

Veteran's Day

I strongly believe in teaching our children the meaning behind and importance of Veteran's Day! We wanted to celebrate and honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. I thought long and hard how we would celebrate this day in my class this year. I found the read aloud, America's White Table and decided to make this day extra special by having a guest speaker (Veteran) come and share his experiences with the students. We were very thankful to have Tristan's grandfather, Mr. Smith come on Thursday. We had a moment of silence at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month. Everyone participated by wearing red, white and blue and we even discussed how next year's Veteran's Day will be even more special. Next year, the date will be 11/11/11. How cool is that!! :) I made a slideshow of the day's events including our white table and how we added items day by day until it was Veteran's Day and the table was set. I hope the students took away with them how precious our freedoms are in this amazing nation in which we live!

Thankful Writings

I am very proud of how hard our boys and girls worked on their Thankful Writings. It was very touching to see the thought behind who they chose, and the reasons why they chose that very special someone to them. They are on display outside our classroom now, and students will bring home their writings the day before Thanksgiving break. They are to give this writing to that very special someone on Thanksgiving Day! In the meantime, please enjoy the photostory we made that gives a snapshot at who they chose. :)

Mystery Reader - Who can it be now?

We enjoyed having Mrs. Turner (Bradley's mom) come and read to us this week. She came and read Veteran's Day by Jacqueline S. Colton. As always, it was a real treat! :)
