Students enjoyed some time to relax and read a good book last week to finish up our month long celebration of Read Across America. We have had a blast this month celebrating with all of our Dr. Seuss activities.

Spring Celebration
Riverbanks Zoo In-School Field Trip
Students were super excited to welcome Ms Larissa from Riverbanks Zoo. She discussed animal adaptations, decomposers, plants, ecosystems and food chains.
Students learned about how all energy comes from the sun and is transferred on to plants and animals.
Then they broke into groups and worked in stations.
It was a great field study and helped reinforced skills we have been learning in our unit on plants and animals.
Biography Brunch
Check out all these amazing costumes for our Biography Brunch this past Thursday. Students did a wonderful job with researching their famous American and presenting their digital technology creations. Students chose between 3 different apps, Photo Speak, Face Talk, and Shadow Puppet for presenting their biographies. I am unable to download all of their presentations but if any of you parents would like a copy of your child's video, please send in a flash drive and I will be happy to get you a copy. :)
Hope you enjoy the slideshow :)

Palmetto Pride
Each year we celebrate SC Day on March 18th. As a way to not only celebrate our state but to celebrate each other, students create a palmetto tree template of their interests and hobbies.
Each year I am so impressed with how well these turn out, especially for an extra credit project.
Students did an amazing job at sharing their palmetto trees with the whole class.
We loved learning more and more about each other.
Well done
M&M's Fraction Math
Miss Wilson taught a wonderful lesson this past Friday using M&M's. Students first sorted their candy and then created fractions using their candy colors.
What a great hands on idea to reinforce our new learning on fractions. ;p
Flying High with Fractions
As a way to reinforce learning about fractions AND to kick off the month of March, we did a fun math activity last week.
Hope you enjoy our fraction kites! :)
Crazy Sock Day
We LOVED being able to sport some crazy socks this past Wednesday in honor of celebrating Dr. Seuss this whole month.
Look at all those sweet feet! :p
PAWS Cafe Winners
Let's all congratulate Gracie and Jordan on being our 3rd nine weeks PAWS Cafe Winners. It was the first time EVER for both of them. I am super proud of them. We only have 1 more nine weeks left in order for your child to be chosen. I am always looking for students who are responsible, trustworthy and caring. :)

Introduction to Biography Unit
Miss Wilson has planned a very fun biography unit to teach. Miss Wilson did a read aloud about Ruby Bridges. Students listened for key events in her life.
Next, Miss Wilson passed out big yellow sheets of paper.
Each group worked on remembering key events from early life….
accomplishments…..
challenges faced by Ruby….Later life events….
and last but not least was a group who wrote down any remaining questions.
Once we all completed our task, each group presented to the whole class.
Finally, students went to the learning commons and the biography section looking for people to research. Each child has now chosen a famous person to research, and we are all super excited about this upcoming unit of study.
