Rockin' Research!

The students just finished their unit on rocks and minerals and we decided to take it one step further by researching the 3 types of rocks and which ones are particularly found in SC.  The students researched one particular rock, it's properties, different names, and then cool facts about their rock.  Once we had all our information students put it all into making a photo card with I-pads. :)

Thanksgiving Recipe Craft Holder

I hope you all love your child's recipe holder we made.  I have students come back and tell me each year how it has become a family tradition to use it during this holiday season.  They really loved making them and want to make this recipe for Thanksgiving this year.  I hope it will be a wonderful keepsake for you to keep as parents of your child in third grade. :)

Rock Man

Students enjoyed Diamond Del visiting our school today and mining gems.  Here are a few pics from today! This will probably be their favorite field trip/study this year - usually it is LOL! I hope they came home telling you all about it and what all they've learned about rocks and minerals. :)

Taste Test :)

Many of the foods we cook in the South have African roots.  So we decided to try one out this past week called  "hoppin' john."  None of my students had ever tried it before and for most of them they loved it! :)

 Two thumbs up!!

 Ehh!
Thumbs down here, but still enjoyed the taste test. :)

Christmas Holiday Brunch

Yes, your eyes are reading this correctly - LOL! I know it's early, but Christmas will be here before we know it, and so I am getting a head start on getting everything organized and ready for our class holiday event.  We will have a Christmas brunch on Thursday, December 19th.  Please click on the below button to sign up for what you want to choose to bring in for this event.  It's super easy and hopefully easier on you as parents too! As always thanks for all you do to help our class events be successful! :)

HEROES DON'T ALWAYS WEAR CAPES - Veteran's Day Celebration :)

Last Friday, we celebrated Veteran's Day as an entire school and class.  We began the day with a parade honoring all those men and women and then had a reception in the Learning Commons.  Afterwards, our class was fortunate to have not one but TWO Veterans come and be guest speakers.  We had Mr. Tunison and Mr. Burnett.  We were very thankful they could come and share with us on this special day.  We are truly grateful for all our Veterans and the sacrifices they make daily for our country.  God Bless America!

Geologists for the Day!

Students were able to become geologists this week and dissect rocks during our "Mock Rocks" lab.  Mrs. Prevatte made some mock rocks with different minerals (shell, red and green gravel, cement) and had the students take apart the rocks and sort through each of the minerals.  Each year this lesson really helps the students understand the difference between rocks and minerals.

We had a "rockin' good time with this lab! :)

PTO Pizza Party!

I have to say that I have without a doubt the BEST parents this year.  We were able to reach our 100% PTO goal and celebrate together with a pizza party this past Wednesday.  I have NEVER had a class before not only meet 100% so soon BUT who also beat our every other class in the ENTIRE school.  Way to go Mrs. Prevatte's class and parents! :)

 OH YEA!

All smiles here!  Thank you again for supporting our class and Carolina Springs Elementary School. :)

Halloween Fun!

I hope you all enjoyed our Candy Corn pots we created this year!  The students did a great job and I was so excited to hear from a few who have siblings I have previously taught that their brother/sister still has their candy corn pot! Means so much to me. :)

We celebrated Halloween on Wednesday this year and had a blast with all of the goodies brought from home.  THANK YOU to all our parents who contributed to make this year's celebration such a success!

Ready to take home our pots and eat all our candy!

 YIKES!!!

Great job everyone on making such cute pots! :)
