Valentine's Day Celebration (one week later)
Due to the crazy winter weather we've had this last month, we had to postpone our Valentine's Day party. I decided to have the party on Friday because I knew we had make-up tests and a lot of work to catch up on..I didn't want all the excitement over candy to cause them to not focus on those tests. Plus, it's a great way to end the week with a party! :)
Symmetry with Cursive Names
Students wrote their first names in cursive and then folded their paper in half. Next they traced their names on the other side. Each created a unique symmetrical picture with his/her name. I am super impressed with how well they all did.
First I gave my students some bubble gum (Bazooka) and believe me, they were so excited!
They chewed and CHEWED! Then they practiced blowing a bubble.
You should have seen some of their faces… they were HILARIOUS!!!
By this point, students were very excited to begin this writing activity and couldn't wait to start writing their own bubble blowing instructions. I was concerned some students would feel bad about not being able to blow a bubble, but they weren't. Just the opposite happened - those who before couldn't blow bubbles quickly learned how or wanted to keep trying until they got it. I think they were just so excited to be able to be chewing gum in class. LOL!
Here are our finished products hanging up in the hallway. ;p

Multiplication Wizard Celebration
Even More Fun in Math
Understanding angles and turns with Geometry can be tricky. We used a circle template in our books and practiced with our straws and twist ties to make different types of turns. Students should be able to explain to you the difference between clockwise and counterclockwise turns and 1/4 turns, 1/2 turns, 3/4 turns, and full turns. :)
Fun in Math!
In order to better conceptualize the different types of triangles we practice using straws and twist ties this week. We learned about equilateral, isosceles, and scalene triangles. :)
