One Act of Kindness Can Change A Person's Life Forever!

I have to share this video I came across recently. It is very inspiring and I cry like a baby each time I watch it. It has to be one of the best commercials I have ever seen. I decided to show it to my students today to show them how one act of kindness can change a person's life forever. Some students cried with me, and some were on the verge of tears. By the end of the video though, they all understood the message, and I could tell were deeply impacted. #missionaccomplished#oneofmybestteachingmomentsever!

"ROCK STAR" Status

Every now and then I like to surprise students who are doing their best each and everyday.  I want the students to know that their great behavior and actions do not go unnoticed.  So, when I notice a student who is being respectful, responsible, and trustworthy each day I reward him or her by using the "Rock Star" chair.

This week I chose Ashley to sit in the chair and she really enjoyed using it and having that awesome status.
Way to "ROCK" that chair Ashley! Stay tuned to see which student will be chosen next!!! :)

Always "DO YOUR BEST!"

I have noticed that the students have not been taking their time on tests, class work, quizzes, etc.  I have this sign posted in front of the class work bucket to remind them that the first one finished doesn't win a prize in my class.  I've told the kiddos that in fact, students who take the longest and double-check their work end up performing better.  Hopefully this sign will help remind them if they are rushing through their work.

Play-doh Landforms!

The students enjoyed creating landforms this week out of play-doh.  Each group was assigned a different landform to mold.  I was super impressed with their play-doh skills.  :)

First landform up- Volcano

 Next we have a Canyon.

Time for a valley!

They had a blast making a cave!!!

Love all the detail on our island!  Can you see the little person sitting up against the palm tree.  :)

Last but not least our Mountain crew!

We all worked so well together and are such a creative bunch this year. :)

SC Regions Cookie

To reinforce learning about our SC regions, we made cookies in the shape of South Carolina and then used yummy ingredients to separate each region.
 Our final product! TA-DA!!!!

We sent them home in ziplock bags so hopefully they were able to bring theirs home and share what they learned with you before eating this yummy treat.

Who knew SC History could be so much fun! :P

"Ask Me" Pins

Whenever students make a great grade or significant improvement in behavior, they get to wear a special pin to show off throughout the day.  When the principal or other teachers walk by, they can read the pins and ask the students about them.  Students love being able to shine and I love allowing them every opportunity to build their self-esteem.   I am looking forward to many more days of these pins being sported around school.

These students were able to sport some of these pins this past week.

Enjoying a "Reading Salad"

This past week we really discussed what it meant to truly be an independent reader.  So many times students will be reading a book, but they are not thinking about what they are reading.  Therefore they are not comprehending.

We compared reading to a salad.  Just like a salad has more lettuce than any other ingredient, our thinking about our reading should be occurring more than just seeing the text.

As we read we should constantly be thinking about what we are reading and making connections.

Having the "time" of our lives!

Each year I like LOVE seeing all my students' hard work with their timelines.  Thank you to all you parents who helped make this project a success for your child.  Enjoy checking all them out. :)
