Diamond Del's Mining Adventure

Afterwards, we went back to the classroom to sort and classify our rocks. I was amazed at how much they were able to recall from our past unit on rocks and minerals. I hoped they will keep these rocks for many years and be able to recall how much fun they had in third grade mining them. :)

Students loved being able to purchase necklaces and other jewelry after mining!

We were so glad Theresa's mom could join in on the fun too!

The smiles on their faces are priceless! I am sure when they got home they filled your ears with the whole day's experience. :)

Check out our cool bag of gems!! Each student was able to get a great sample of different rocks and gems!

They loved finding the "Fool's Gold!"

The students have been so excited waiting for Diamond Del to come and visit and bring his rocks and gems with him. Our kids have been anticipating his visit since they were first told months ago during our rocks and minerals unit. They were well pleased and all of them kept saying it was well worth the money and wait. :)

"I Spy" poems!

While working on their poetry unit, Ms. Guinn used the "I Spy" series books to model examples to the students of rhyme scheme and ABAB patterns. Students then had to apply their new knowledge to create their own "I Spy" poems with partners. One of the best parts of the lesson was when the students were allowed to work together on an I Spy interactive CD hunt.

3rd Grade Team as "Pete the Cat!"

I was looking for a cute idea for our third grade team of teachers to use for book character dress up day this past Thursday. Of course anyone who knows me knows that I am a Pinterest addict and love checking out other teachers' blogs. While searching through different posts for March I came across this idea of dressing up like Pete the Cat. It ended up turning out great and all of our team including Ms. Guinn was able to participate. I have to give a shout out to my awesome parent volunteers for making our "cool shoes" for us to wear on Thursday. They did an awesome job and we were very appreciative of all that hard work. All the students loved passing us in the hallway with our shoes and signs and we were even asked to sing the song!! Everywhere we went, you would hear us singing, "I love my red shoes, I love my red shoes."

St. Patty's Day Fun!

I wish you all a very happy and safe St. Patrick's Day! Enjoy your nice long weekend. :)

Finally, I ended the day by handing them a personal little treat from me. Another little something I found thanks to Pinterest!

They are so eager to start eating their sweet treats!

Next we made rainbows out of graham crackers, blue icing, and skittles. The kids added the magic Leprechaun touch of a Reese's cup for a pot of gold. :)

I have to say this was the best St. Patrick's Day ever as a school teacher. We started the day off with crazy sock day.

Mulitplication Wizards Celebration

I was so proud of how well my students have learned their multiplication facts here recently.

YUMMY IN OUR TUMMIES!!

We celebrated this week by having an ice-cream sundae treat at the end of the day. The more facts the students learned the more toppings they were allowed to add to their ice-cream sundae.
