Riverbanks Zoo Outreach Field Study
We were very excited last week to welcome our guest speaker from the Riverbanks Zoo.
We reviewed our energy is passed from producers to consumers.
What animals eat?
Who are herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores??
Digging for decomposers….
Parts of a plant…
We reviewed different ecosystems and food chains in each.
We also got to touch and look at real bird feathers, and fur from a tiger and lion!!!
I LOVED watching the kids amazement and excitement during this visit. They also asked some very intuitive questions. Our guest speaker was very impressed not only with their behavior but their awesome questions and said she can't wait to come back next year for another visit. ;)

Roarin' 1920's Celebration
This past Thursday, we celebrated learning about the 1920's in class. I couldn't believe how many students participated in dressing up and enjoying this day.
We ate foods invented in the 1920's…Many of us had never tried nor heard of Charleston Chews but it became a clear favorite for sure!
We then listened to some 1920's songs and danced "The Charleston."
Thanks again parents for all your help and support making this history lesson come to life for us!
3 States of Matter
We've been learning that all matter has volume and mass. As a class we wanted to learn what ALL matter is made up of (whether or not it is a solid, liquid, or gas). We discussed atoms and molecules and how they are constantly moving in each state of matter.
In a solid they move more slowly because they are packed in close together. In a liquid they move faster because they are less packed together.
In a gas they move very fast because they are spread far apart.
Next, we wanted to see what would happen if you mix a solid (baking soda) with a liquid (vinegar).
We quickly saw how if these two items are mixed, a chemical reaction happens and created carbon dioxide that filled the balloon with air making our gas. :)
I am not sure if you see Mr. Watchinski in the back photo bombing us - but he paid us a visit this day to observe Mrs. P. My students did such an awesome job (not surprisingly) and earned their last "Brownie point" and we enjoyed homemade brownies this past Friday to celebrate. :)

Easter Break Fun!
I hope all of you have had a wonderful and blessed spring break and Easter holiday with your family and loved ones. It has been a nice and relaxing break for me and my family. Here are a few pics of some of our fun moments over break. :) We went to a Carolina baseball game~
and then to Santee for a couple of days for some fishing fun!
We caught some big ones~
Enough for even a fish fry!
We also had a glow in the dark Easter egg hunt followed by some fun but messy egg dyeing. :)
Happy Easter from our family to yours!
As always, I LOVE being off with my family, but I sure have missed my students too! Can't wait to see them tomorrow morning and catch up on what all they did over break. :)
Easter Baskets and Celebrating before spring break!
Weaving our Easter baskets.
Everyone did an awesome job and for the most of them they had never weaved before.
Impressive!
Look out awesome they turned out!
Enjoying our Easter treats and still having plenty to carry home. :)
