To help students learn perimeter and area we have been checking out these catchy songs. The students always love learning new songs to help with their newly learned concepts. :)
The students LOVED this song in class and I am hoping it will only help to motivate them to learn more about rocks. It's very catchy and see if you recognize the tune! :)

Students who were still members of our HW club were allowed to participate in eating popcorn and watching a movie on Friday. This was a great treat to end our first 9 weeks in third grade. Each student is given 3 HW passes to use each 9 weeks for anytime when life just happens and they aren't able to complete homework that night. By the end of the 9 weeks if they haven't missed 4 homework assignments then they are allowed to participate and enjoy our party. :)
Congratulations to our first 9 weeks winners Lucas Burnett and Caroline Knarr who were chosen for PAWS Cafe winners. I am always looking for students who exhibit being respectful, responsible and trustworthy. I am also taking into consideration who has won in years past, and students who have never won before. Lucas and Caroline were able to enjoy a nice lunch on the stage while watching a movie with all the other winners. ;)
Who knew learning about soil/dirt could be so much fun AND tasty! :) To conclude our unit on soil we made edible treats on Friday. Students created layers of soil and used different goodies to represent each layer and the different types of soil.
For the bottom layer of bedrock we used mini marshmallows. Next, we add Cheerios for the subsoil layer.
M&M's were used to represent organic matter and Cocoa Krispies cereal was used for Humus.
Finally, we topped it off with gummy/sour worms for our decomposers.
By the end of the activity the kiddos were devouring their cup of goodies, and everybody agreed this was their favorite edible activity thus far.
Either way, Mrs. P was excited because they ALL knew the different types of soil, and were excited about learning which is all that matters! :)
To help raise money for Juvenile Diabetes we are having Fun Fridays the entire month of October. Today we paid $1.00 each to go shoeless and wear crazy socks. :)
